Jefferson Christian Academy offers excellent opportunities for students to grow academically. Curriculum includes phonics, reading, math, language arts, science, social studies and Bible. Enrichments are offered for PE, music, art, library, and Spanish. Our teachers use many other resources to prepare our students to be lifelong learners. Manipulatives and interactive activities keep students engaged and excited about learning. Technology, such as interactive white boards with Promethean software and iPads, help teachers to create new and innovative lessons that reinforce learning for greater retention. It is most important that young children be taught to read, develop verbal skills, learn basic math concepts, learnt scientific method and acquire social skills. Learning is hard work, but our elementary faculty members strive to make the experience rewarding and enjoyable. The Elementary Enrichment Curriculum includes daily physical education classes, weekly art, computer and music classes. Bible- Beginning to understand the word of God at an early age is a special opportunity for the students at JCA. Day Bible lessons and chapel services provide opportunities for the students to acquire Bible knowledge. Math- is used in each classroom to provide a firm math foundation. Saxon builds upon prior learning and encourages students to daily practice all math skills. Science- Our science program incorporates all of the state standards required for each grade. Each lesson is taught from a Biblical perspective. Social Studies- The Harcourt Brace Social Studies Curriculum begins in the 1st grade and provides your child with an ever-growing knowledge of the community, city, state, country, and world that they live in. Concepts of citizenship and community responsibility are also stressed. Reading, Grammar, Phonics and Spelling- The McGraw Hill Complete Reading Program allows us to combine four important ares of teaching your child to read. Early on, phonological awareness is stressed to make sure every child can hear and develop the sounds of language. Phonics awareness is also used to enable students to read words accurately and automatically. Guided reading is practiced by the teachers to model strategic-thinking, questioning and problem-solving strategies. Spelling words are given as a reinforcement aid in connection with the stories that are read. In Kindergarten and 1st grade, the Son Phonics program is used to provide a solid foundation that will help the children become successful readers. Handwriting- Kindergarten through 5th grade utilize the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Curriculum. Handwriting is an important part of our Language Arts instruction because it builds communication skills that will last throughout their lifetime. Accelerated Reader- in connection with our Reading curriculum, we also make use of the Accelerated Reading (AR) program in the classrooms. AR is a program that is designed to motivate children to read.
